Impulse sensitivity functions of oscillators

چکیده
We define two impulse sensitivity functions (ISF) describing the transient and the stationary effects of perturbations on the trajectory of oscillators. These functions give an insight into the sensitivity of the oscillator over time. They can be used to rate different oscillators according to their sensitivity to perturbations e.g. by noise. Both functions are derived from the properties of the corresponding dynamic system model and its monodromy matrix. The calculation of the ISF is shown and correlations between the nonlinearity contained in the oscillator and its noise behaviour is demonstrated by an example.

A Phase Noise Reduction Technique in LC Cross-coupled Oscillators with Adjusting Transistors Operating Regions
In this paper, an intuitive analysis of a phase noise reduction technique is done, and then a modified structure is proposed to achieve higher phase noise reduction than the original one. This method reduces the impact of noise sources on the phase noise by decreasing closed-loop gain in zero-crossings points and moving this high closed-loop gain to the non-zero-crossings points. This reduction...
متن کاملJitter and Phase Noise in Ring Oscillators
A companion analysis of clock jitter and phase noise of single-ended and differential ring oscillators is presented. The impulse sensitivity functions are used to derive expressions for the jitter and phase noise of ring oscillators. The effect of the number of stages, power dissipation, frequency of oscillation, and shortchannel effects on the jitter and phase noise of ring oscillators is anal...
متن کاملPhase Noise of Multiphase CMOS LC Oscillators Coupled by Mutual Inductors
There have beem many studies on the analysis and design of low-noise oscillators. Recently, much attention has been paid to the noise reduction technique using coupled oscillators. When oscillators are coupled, the coupling method is very important and affects various factors, for example, the level of noise. In this study, we analyze the phase noise of multiphase CMOS LC oscillators coupled by...
متن کاملJitter Optimization Using the Body Bias in Digital CMOS Ring Oscillators ( EE 241 Project , May 5 , 2003 )
— This paper investigates the concept of using body bias as a design tool to optimize the timing jitter and power dissipation in single ended CMOS ring oscillators. A theoretical model for phase noise and timing jitter in ring oscillators is summarized and used as a basis for simulation of the impulse sensitivity function. Simulation results are then used to estimate timing jitter and phase noi...
متن کاملEntrainment and the cranial rhythmic impulse.
Entrainment is the integration or harmonization of oscillators. All organisms pulsate with myriad electrical and mechanical rhythms. Many of these rhythms emanate from synchronized pulsating cells (eg, pacemaker cells, cortical neurons). The cranial rhythmic impulse is an oscillation recognized by many bodywork practitioners, but the functional origin of this impulse remains uncertain. We propo...
